There is a well-documented correlation between professional staging and shorter days on market. The National Association of Realtors puts the figure at roughly seventy-three percent of sellers' agents agreeing that staging makes a measurable difference. At GrowthAutomations Realty, we have seen it firsthand across hundreds of listings. But staging does not have to mean living in a showroom.
Start With Subtraction
The most effective staging move costs nothing: remove things. Clear countertops, thin out bookshelves, and empty closets to fifty percent capacity. Buyers are not evaluating your belongings. They are trying to imagine their own, and clutter makes that difficult.
Neutralize Without Sterilizing
Painting over a bold accent wall with a warm gray is usually worth the afternoon it takes. But do not strip the house of all personality. A few well-placed items, a stack of books on a nightstand, a single plant on a dining table, make the space feel intentional rather than vacant.
Fix the Small Things
Loose cabinet handles, dripping faucets, and scuffed baseboards register subconsciously with buyers even when they cannot articulate what felt off. A Saturday afternoon of minor repairs can shift a buyer's impression from 'needs work' to 'well maintained.'
Light Is Not Optional
Open every blind. Replace dim bulbs with higher-wattage alternatives. If a room has no overhead fixture, add a floor lamp. Dark rooms feel smaller, and smaller feels cheaper. Light is the least expensive way to increase perceived value.
Know When to Hire
If the property is vacant or if your furniture does not complement the space, professional staging is a sound investment. At GrowthAutomations Realty, our design team led by Liv Inroom handles staging as part of our listing services. The cost is modest relative to the price adjustment that a poorly presented home invites.
The goal is not perfection. The goal is to present the property in a way that lets the buyer focus on the home itself rather than the distractions around it.
